The housing market may be slowing, but it seems to be a corresponding decrease in the number of sales of furniture to households in the people. In fact, the opposite seems to be happening across the country.

For example, California-based Dacor, a kitchen equipment company, reports that sales for the first quarter of 2006 were approximately 25 percent over the same period in 2005. Another supplier of kitchen appliances, based in Pittsburg Sub-Zero saw sales jump 30 percent during the same period.

What is driving the alarming increase in the market for home furnishings? The factors are complex, but the fact is that the figures are bound to increase, despite a softening housing market. Part of the reason for the increase is that if buyers are buying a house new or existing, will spend an average of $ 6,000 during their first year of ownership, and to begin the task of converting their new homes in a more accurate reflection who they are and how they choose to live.
