Dry Kid

Dry Kid

I am a father of 4 children ages 17, 13, 10 and 5. Being an OFW (overseas Filipino workers) to myself, my job requires me to spend most of it away from my family. That's why we have to make the most of my time at every opportunity that comes along the way to be with them, especially my vacation in the Philippines.

The Bible says children are a reward from the Lord, and blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them (Psalm 127). I have certainly found that to be true. But I also discovered that most gets me shaking (I have a beautiful, beautiful little three arrows) is harder to find time to give each child the attention that need and deserve.

My most recent vacation in the Philippines was very tiring but rewarding for those who have to balance my own activities schedule my children. Looking at my schedule for next weekend at that time, five day seminar dominates the landscape, along with the list of household chores, tutoring and proceedings as any man should have to face. And these are supposed to be my days off!

Can you relate? If so, here are things to do to develop my relationship with my children, despite a hectic schedule.

1. Take one or two children over a short trip

Last month I had a message to the mall to buy grocery items, and I took my two young daughters with me. The time of the three we spent in the grocery store and in the car each mission was invaluable, and now I always asked, "Daddy, when are we going to do the shopping again?" In one or two day trips as this is a great opportunity for you to connect with their children.

2. I put nicknames

Each of my son has a nickname that nobody else has. We 'mouse', 'Senyor "and" Amag and my even my wife was not spared, as I have given her nickname as well. These nicknames they say, "You know Why? You are special.

3. Take dates

I try to have regular dates with each of my children. Like my wife, who deserve my full attention then. This is more than just let come and run errands. Time I build around them, doing things they like and simply talking.

4. Eat a meal together every day

In our house is chaos breakfast and lunch that are scattered to the four winds. However, if possible try to have dinner with the family. This is our time to reconnect and recharge after a busy day. This is our chance to celebrate victories and to help each other through difficult things.

5. Pray together at night

Every night before bedtime prayers with my children in our room. We pray by its past, present and future. We thank God for sending His Son for us. We pray for their needs and current concerns. And we pray together for their future spouses, asking God to make them grow in faith and purity.

6. Be available

Our children need to know they are more important than school service was abandoned by his school. Being a Friday that day, the car he was driving is not allowed on the street as a number coding scheme, I that out of my way to avoid traffic enforcement just to make myself available. Great distance is not an excuse for me I have to do math my daughters and son over the Internet (Skype and YM) and my children are allowed to text in my cell phone anytime you need help with their homework.

7. Put your activities on your schedule

My calendar book of the face and my desk calendar are filled with my children's activities, practices and games. Although I can not reach them all while I'm gone, but I'm there as much as possible to encourage them. I do not want to lose their great moments!

The Bible speaks of children as arrows. I imagine taking aim by pulling back the bow and launch the world. The goal was hit depends largely on the amount you invest today in day. Does it take effort? Yes Is there sometimes difficult decisions? Yes Is it worth it? Definitely.
